About Cork
Founded in the 6th Century, Cork is Ireland’s second largest City and is home to over 300,000 people.
It has a young and highly educated population with over 30,000 students attending some of Ireland’s finest educational institutions including University College Cork (UCC) and Cork Institute of Technology (CIT). It also plays host to over 3,000 international students from over 100 countries.
Cork is recognised as a place of culture and relaxation and is widely regarded as the culinary capital of Ireland. Leave the city behind and in less than 30 minutes arrive at the village of Kinsale – renowned as a destination for the finest locally sourced food.
Cork’s unspoilt coast line boasts a number of Blue Flag beaches including Garretstown and Garrylucas.
Golf is a highlight of the region, with 22 varied and challenging courses. Just 20 minutes from Cork Airport Business Park is the spectacular “Old Head” golf Links, located on the edge of dramatic cliffs with the sea foaming below. Also of note is Fota Island golf course, a previous host of the Irish Open and other internationals.
Fishing and outdoor activities are also a feature of the County with its misty mountains, rolling countryside and meandering rivers providing a backdrop for the extensive walking and cycling trails that criss-cross the landscape.
